We saw a few Paddyfield Pipits/ Anthus rufulus on the ground just a few feet before the water's edge.
The banks of the lake was full of aquatic plants in bloom.
Among these plants we spotted a Little Grebe /Tachybaptus ruficollis with two ducklings. I managed ti make a short video footage of the happy family too.
There were many Purple Swamphens/ Porphyrio porphyrio too, but it was too difficult to approach them for a decent photo.
Below are the kind of plant life and beautiful views I photographed. Don't forget to check the video too!
Posted for Scenic Sunday.

ReplyDeleteI like canoeing too !
Tell me please - is it safe there ? I mean aren't there aligators or crocodiles ?
Sorry for question, but I canoed in Florida and the safety there was quite moderated I would say :-)
Howdy folks, Reading all your kinds word,I'm in such a good mood at the beginning of the day!:D
ReplyDeleteMirek, There are many Swamp Crocodiles in this part of the lake( no gators in Sri Lanka), but they are not a primary concern, attacks have not been reported for sometime. A crock,as any other predator, would attack or prey on humans under some special circumstances, and most of the time they avoid humans. The real danger is drowning, this lake has a nasty record of deaths by drowning, many of them skilled swimmers! So it is strongly recommended to have life jackets on,have a good swimmer on board, and let a local who frequently rows in this part of the lake stay in command.
Beautiful photos. My favorite is the 3rd one down.
