Back In Black..........

Hey folks, it's wonderful to be back blogging again! I'm sorry for the long absence, but I'm back, and with some exiting stuff too.

Last Saturday was a great day in my life, for I was able to bag a really magnificent bird of prey, a Crested Serpent Eagle! He was perched on a power pillar in a rice field nearby, probably looking for some game, and obliged me with these two presentable shots before flying away.

The same day I captured  a family of Red-wattled Lapwings, two juveniles and their mother, as well as  flock of Scaly-breasted Munias.

And here are some more birds from the garden.

I hope you enjoyed my photos and videos, and I'll drop by your blogs too. I will post again on next Friday if capture anything new by then, so stay tuned. Ciao!

This Week's Birds......

How's the birding  been this week, folks? It's not been too bad for me. My walks to and from work as well as hanging around the birding patch has yielded some nice birds.

PhotobucketRice fields are being planted for the next season, so the fields being prepared attract lots of water birds, who come looking for small critters unearthed by farmers. I only managed to capture this Asian Openbill Stork.

Barbet And Robin..........

Hey folks, how's it goin? We have had a good mix of blazing sun and thundering downpour for about two weeks, and it didn't rain at all for last three days.

I have observed Oriental Magpie Robin (Copsychus saularis) to be mostly a solitary bird. Their diet seems to consist almost entirely of insects, there are instances when one would snatch some cooked rice off the feeder in the garden.

Do you remember my post about nesting Brown-headed Barbets? Well, the chicks seem to be growing well, they make  quite a racket! The nest is completely hidden from view though, good for them. Here are some stills and  a video I managed to get of the adult bird/s.

Lots Of Birds In My Working Place Premises

Getting these birds on video and identifying them is lots of fun. I wish I could have a job that allows me more time with nature instead of a  few minutes of a lunch break now and then. :-(  But I'm luckier than many to work where there are so many birds. :-) Pleas correct me if any of my bird identifications are incorrect.

Bellow are Purple Sunbirds (Cinnyris asiaticus) feasting on the flowers . The first one is a male.

This One shows a house sparrow.

The little black and white busybody in this clip is Oriental Magpie Robin.
