Not Sure what This Is.........

I photographed this lizard today in the garden. It looks like a male Oriental Garden Lizard(Calotes versicolor) but this particular color pattern makes me wonder.... Any ideas?

  7. I know the Oriental Garden Lizards are often called the "bloodsucker lizards" as well because their heads are often bright red after a battle or during the breeding season perhaps that is the difference. Just an educated guess though.
    Great pictures of it.

No doubt about it. Your identification is correct and it is Common Garden Lizard (Calotes versicolor)For more details - http://biodiversityofsrilanka.blogspot.com/2010/09/common-garden-lizard-calotes-versicolor.html. Like most lizards it also can change its body color up to certain extent. It is believed that bright colors like red can attract some insects on them it can prey on.

  13. Cool capture, Amila!

It looks like a male oriental garden lizard, but those patterns on his tail looks somewhat different than the once I have seen. I guess it’s time to call the experts .. ;)
