The Dragons of Rockpool......

Dozens of these stunning dragonflies, and some other types as well, is a sure sight at an abandoned granite mine now filled with water, within my birding patch. I think this particular species is Dawn Dropwing, Trithemis aurora, but I'm not entirely sure.

  4. Wow! We have vivid blue and green dragonflies here along with various brown varieties but nothing like this. What an amazing color! Great photos.

  6. Yes it is Crimson Dropwing (Trithemis aurora).
    Amber color patch at wing base, pinkish veins in wings and black mark at end of anal appendage are identification keys. Please visit post on this dragonfly in my blog for more info on it -
