Isn't It A Beauty?........Chalky percher...

I used to post more insect  photos on this blog until I bought the camera I use now, which has a greater zoom and gives me a better chance with birds and other big creatures and I've been ignoring insects a little lately. But I like to have balanced variety of creatures on Wild Sri Lanka, and I'm gonna try to do just that. So, here's a dragonfly that I find very beautiful. These photos are from my very first spotting of this kind. It was basking in glaring hot sunlight in my garden last Wednesday and allowed me to get really close to it until I accidentally touched  it with the camera lens!    This species of dragonfly is called Diplacodes trivialis/Chalky percher.

  6. The number of insect pictures appearing in blogs these day is on the increase I think. Cameras getting better I suspect - even I get the odd good one and I'm a long way from owning an SLR. It great. There's as much little wildlife that is too small to see as there is big stuff and it's just as wonderful. :)

  7. Hi John,I'm honored!:-)
    Hi Mari,Many, many thanks!
Hi Sandy, Yes,cameras getting better must have an influence. You know what? I didn't use an SLR for these photos.I don't have one either! You can take a pretty impressive macro shot even with an average point-and-shoot cam if you get close enough to the subject and hold the cam still.
