Serendib Scops Owl



A small owl, about 16 cm in length. Dark spots can be seen all over the yellowish body, except the head.

Ceylon Blue Magpie[Urocissa Ornata] is an endemic, vulnerable and flagship bird species of Sri Lanka.Lives in lawland wet and highland forests. Prefers to be on tree tops.A shy but noicy bird.More active on rainy days. Thrives on insects,tree frogs,lizards,geckos and fruits.Breeding seeson is from January to March. Lays 3-5 bluish green eggs at a time in open nest like that of a Craw's.

This is a vulnerable bird. Limited to south west of wet zone and highlands up to 3000 feet from sea level. Can be seen in pairs or small herds. Likes being on tops of tall trees. Thrives on nector and juices of fruits. Makes a nest which hangs from a tree branch. Lays two white eggs with purplish gold dots at a time. Breeding season is from January to Agust.
